What we do

MyZambiaMyAfricaLogo

Brexit

As a post-Brexit United Kingdom seeks to find its new place in the world, focusing on Africa still holds considerable potential. MyZambia MyAfrica remains dedicated to building a positive and enduring brand identity for Zambia, by attracting inward investment and taking advantage of the opportunities that Brexit offers.

Our inspiration

Zambia’s arteries flow into 8 countries and it epitomises Africa at its best and most challenging.  “Give me anything, even a spade or a sickle and I will prove my worth”, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, former freedom fighter and first President of Zambia (1964-1991), said, while addressing the National Union of Northern Rhodesian Students in 1963. Dr. Kaunda is an icon who is widely considered to be one of modern Africa’s founding fathers. A National Development Plan communicates to the world a country’s aspirations and course of action to achieve economic development. The President of Zambia His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu launched the 7th National Development Plan (7NDP) on 21 June 2017. The 7NDP aspires to transform Zambia into a middle income country by 2030. The principle driver for establishing MyZambia MyAfrica in 2017 was to support the implementation of the 7NDP.  The zealous spirit of MyZambia MyAfrica is very simple – Zambia is open for business!

Importance of Mining in Zambia

Zambia is a land-linked Copper rich country that lies in Southern Africa. The Mining sector consumes 55% of the Energy produced from the national grid (Kaunda and Mtawali, 2013). Since 2000, the demand for Energy in Zambia has increased by 4% per annum. However, the supply has not kept up with demand and population growth (Energy Africa, 2018). 94% of Zambia’s Energy is generated from hydro which makes the nation vulnerable to changes in rainfall patterns and Climate Change (Batidzira et al, 2018).

Renewables in Africa (RiA)

MyZambia MyAfrica has joined forces with Renewables in Africa (RiA) to provide direct Energy opportunities to investors and deal makers. Renewables in Africa (RiA) is a Clean Energy engineering consultancy and media platform, whose vision is to transform Africa and the lives of her inhabitants by leveraging the power of Clean Energy. As the World Bank eloquently surmised: “A cost-effective and reliable source of Energy (electricity) is a prerequisite for the economic development of any nation” (World Bank, 2013). Zambia, as an aspiring emerging economy, is clearly receptive to that timeless truth.

Climate Change

Through the 7NDPthe Zambian Government has emphasized the importance of formulating greenhouse gas abatement measures. The Government has also set its own targets in its contribution to achieving the international Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Government’s call is for the active involvement for institutions at all levels to participate.  However, the SDG are challenging especially in the developing South, even though these are the regions which will be most adversely affected by Climate Change, as we have recently witnessed in the neighbouring countries of Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

What exactly is a brand?

Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.com eloquently put it: “Branding is what people say about you when you are not in the room”. The MyZambia MyAfrica brand aspires to the admirable virtues of patriotism, philanthropy and depicting Zambia as a trusted place to do international business. We believe that the timing of Brexit presents a perfect catalyst for Zambia to become a recognisable international brand. Brand building also creates a platform for the Zambian diaspora to demonstrate their patriotism and contribute to the implementation of the 7NDP.

MyZambia MyAfrica logo

Cattle are a measure of wealth in Africa. The MyZambia MyAfrica brand is epitomised by a charging bull with a map of Africa on his side. The charging position of the bull suggests the taking of affirmative action to challenge the status quo and being in a struggle. Also, the bull symbol signifies an upward market trend in the stock market.

Significance of the number 8

We utilise the number 8 in our branding. This is because Zambia shares her boarder with 8 countries.

Rainbow Push Coalition

Rev. Jesse Jackson

Our connection with Africa is at the root of who we are as African-Americans. It is our starting point as a people. It shapes our culture and our perspectives. We hear the call of the Continent wherever we are in the world. For 17 years we have held annual conventions in Chicago and a Wall Street Summit in New York, promoting the Continent and her diaspora. I endorse the work of Leya Kawamba and Joel O’Loughlin and give my full support to their bold vision of connecting the global African diaspora with our ancestral home.  We welcome MyZambia MyAfrica into our Rainbow Push family and look forward to making great strides in bridging the gap between Africans at home and abroad”, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Civil Rights Activist, Baptist Minister and politician.
